Manager – Lorient Grand Large

Christophe Baudry

52 years old, Manager of Lorient Grand Large, the association in charge of sailing events as well as the training of more than 100 talented skippers in Lorient. The city located in South Brittany is at the center of the Sailing Valley, an area that gathers more than 80% of French nautical competences in the technical field as well as on the water. This position led him to run two Volvo Ocean Race stopovers in 2012 and 2015 as overall Manager. Lorient Grand Large is now organizing the relaunch of “Lorient-Les Bermudes Lorient 2019”, a mythical double transatlantic race established in 1979.

With skills in photography and chemistry, he began his carreer in 1989 in Eastman Kodak Company. He then joined DPPI, a Photographic Press Agency dedicated to sports images as chief editor for Olympics, extreme sports and sailing developing a strong relationship with athletes from all over the world, brands and sports federations.

In 2007 he became Communication Manager for the Vendée Globe, the solo sailing round the world race, a “childhood dream”. The media exposure was increased by 60% compared to the previous edition.

The dedication he puts in his work gives him little time sailing but he still goes out to play “in his garden” Le Golfe du Morbihan onboard his “old lady Lorelei», a DC20 built in 1968.
