Sustainability Education manager of the Volvo Ocean Race

Lucy Hunt

Lucy is the Sustainability Education manager of the Volvo Ocean Race and has created and facilitated the ocean education programme which is available in 7 different languages and is being used in 40 countries by over 100,000 people, creating real positive change for the ocean. Lucy is from Waterville, Co. Kerry, SW Ireland. She is an Ocean advocate and founder of Sea Synergy Marine Awareness & Activity Centre. She has a degree in marine biology and zoology and a Masters in Marine Environmental Protection from the University of Wales Bangor. She is also a PhD student with University College Dublin researching how marine education interventions can influence wellbeing of people and the ocean.

Lucy has been featured on TV, radio, newspaper and magazines for being passionate about her work and ocean health on numerous occasions aswell as being involved in making of BBC wildlife documentaries such as Manta Queen, Monty Halls and The One Show.

Her business Sea Synergy roll out the Irish Marine Institutes Marine Explorers education programme in SW Ireland to thousands of primary school children. She is also on the Irish Heritage in Schools expert panel for marine biology.
