Director at Vivi Resources Limited

Marcus Hutchinson

Hutchinson’s professional career has crossed yacht design and engineering (Robert Humphreys Yacht Design) writing, journalism and editing various specialist publications (Seahorse Magazine), event management, communications and media relations (Louis Vuitton Cup, America’s Cup, Audi MedCup, Volvo Ocean Race), sailing team management (TeamOrigin, Aleph), coaching (Artemis Offshore Academy) and latterly specific project management of IMOCA 60 programmes for the Vendée Globe (SMA, Bioline Kilcullen, Souffle du Nord/Team Ireland, TRR).

Hutchinson’s own racing career started in dinghies in the 1970s before moving quickly to the offshore world and the heady days of the IOR and the Ton Cups of the 1980s where he had success at many national and world championships. Shorthanded offshore racing and the highly competitive Figaro One Design circuit followed in the late 1990s between America’s Cup management commitments.

It is difficult to put a label on him but Hutchinson’s wide experience means he can always be found somewhere near where the commercial, sponsorship and media worlds meet the technical and sports worlds at the top end of our sport.

Married with two daughters, over the last 35 years Hutchinson has lived in the UK, France, USA, New Zealand, Switzerland and Spain. A fluent French speaker he spends his time between France and his native Ireland.
