Mario Caponnetto

Passionate sailor in his youth, takes a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Genova. Starts developing CFD codes for propellers, sails, hulls and wings in the late ’80.

Alternates professional work in shipyards with university research. Participates in 7  America’s Cup Design Teams, winning twice with Oracle in 2010 and 2013, once the Louis Vuitton Cup in 1992 and the Prada Cup in 2021 as CFD responsible and foil designer.
In 2017, he Co-founded Caponnetto-Hueber SL, a consulting company and a scientific laboratory specialized in fluid dynamics and energy efficiency for the nautical and maritime industries.
The company main areas of expertise are foiling yachts and foils design, hydrodynamics design and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
Caponnetto Hueber has been designing the foils of Luna Rossa Challenge during the 36th America’s Cup, Persico foiling one-design sailing yacht Fly 40,  E1-series foiling one-design motor yacht Racebird, Bluegame Hydrogen Support Vessel for the 37th America’s Cup and is working with several cleantech and mobility startups to develop 0-emission foiling ferries, water taxis and tenders
