Richard Brisius
Richard Brisius is the co-CEO of The Ocean Race alongside Johan Salén. He brings extensive experience in leading international complex teams, projects and events. Brisius was a crewmember in the 1989-’90 and 1993-’94 round-the-world races as well as the 1992 America’s Cup. Since the 1997-’98 race, he has applied his knowledge to the management side. He was shore manager for Team EF that won in ’97-’98. Brisius managed the 2005-’06 entry of Ericsson and was tasked to manage the overall commercial and sportive organization winning again the 2008-’09 Volvo Ocean Race in what became his sixth consecutive race. He was then appointed Head of Global Marketing Communication at Ericsson. At that time he organized and lead a thought leadership forum on ICT in Learning & Education held in Hong Kong in 2011, gathering ICT leaders, world-renowned professors, top politicians and inspirational global leaders. In 2012 he was asked to lead the overall commercial and sportive organization for Team SCA in the 2014-’15 Volvo Ocean Race, bringing women back into the race. He is currently the chairman of the Ocean Race.
