Annamarie Phelps
Annamarie Phelps is Co-Chair of the Global Executive of the International Working Group on Women and Sport [IWG], the largest global network for the advancement of gender equality in sport, President of European Rowing and Vice Chair of the British Olympic Association. A member of European Olympic Committees Executive Committee, she chairs the EOC Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Commission and was elected to the Bureau of the Council of Europe Consultative Committee for Sport in 2024.
Annamarie served as Chairman of British Rowing (2013-2018) after eleven years as Vice-Chair, and chaired the British Horseracing Authority, the governing and regulatory body for horseracing (2019-2021), the UK’s second largest spectator sport. Annamarie currently serves on the IOC and ANOC Olympic Gender Equality Commissions, IOC Faculty for Safeguarding, World Rowing’s Governance and Safeguarding working groups and Racing Welfare’s Governance Committee.
World Champion in Women’s Lightweight Coxless Fours, 1993 and silver medallist 1991, 1992 and 1994, Annamarie won lightweight womens category at the World Indoors in 1992, 1993 and 1994 breaking the world record in the process. Annamarie represented Great Britain in the women’s eight at the Atlanta Olympic Games, 1996.
