Ed Bell is the Project Manager of the world’s coolest and most impressive race boat built in 2025: Magic Carpet e
Born in the UK, I grew up in a close-knit family of five. My father, a former test engineer on the illustrious Concorde 002 team, established a successful engineering business that became the heartbeat of our family. Our bond was profound, and I spent countless hours by his side, soaking in the intricacies of engineering that would shape my future.
After completing an engineering apprenticeship and earning my degree, I joined the family business, diving into the world of engineering and project management on special projects until I turned 23. It was during this pivotal time that I met my wife, with whom I shared a passion for adventure. Together, we embarked on a journey that took us away from the UK, working on boats and exploring the open seas.
In 2010, my wife introduced me to the Magic Carpet sailing team, where I stepped in as a build engineer for Magic Carpet 3. My engineering expertise quickly led me to the role of race engineer, allowing me to merge my technical skills with my love for sailing. Throughout the years, I engaged in various projects within the industry, collaborating with renowned teams like Cariboni and participating in the Volvo Ocean Race during stopovers.
After years of dedication to the development of Magic Carpet 3, I was honored to be entrusted with the project management of its concept development and build, working closely with Sir Lindsay and Danny. This opportunity was not just a career milestone; it was a life-changing experience that deepened my passion for engineering and sailing.
