Paolo Manganelli
Paolo Manganelli is a structural engineer specialised in the design of composite structures of sailing yachts.
A member of the structural engineering team of Gurit since 2005, Paolo has contributed to the structural design of many high-profile projects including IMOCA60s, Volvo 70’s, the Volvo 65’, TP52s, and several Maxis. He has also participated to the design of novel structures for wind assisted ship propulsion and renewable energy applications.
Paolo holds a PhD from the University of Southampton in the field of fluid-structure interaction. He started his career on the structural design of the foiling catamaran “Techniques Avancées”, sailing speed record holder in 1997. Before joining Gurit, he collaborated with Finot-Conq naval architects to improve the reliability of IMOCA60 hull structures exposed to slamming.
In his current role, Paolo is responsible for the global activity of Gurit structural engineering team. He is based in the South of France and, when not at work, spends most of his time sailing.
